My car has gone through various stages of steering from factory leaky power steering, to test your strength manual steering, etc. When I had the engine and transmission out I decided it was the right time to do a rack and pinion conversion like I had planned. I decided to go with the Unisteer manual rack because I had read alot of good feedback and the kit was very much a bolt-on economical solution. The kit can be seen here. One thing that was slightly different on my setup was that I had to purchase some additional tie rod ends to support the Granada spindles. These were part # 8021250. The kit basically bolts up and fits nicely. If you research it on the Internet you will see two main variations that are not consistent: notching out some of the frame support, and cutting down the length of the threaded piece the tie rod attaches to. I had to do both on my car to get it installed and the fitment right. Neither of these is terribly difficult, but they can be somewhat time consuming and trial and error till you get it right. On my setup with the Granada tie rods I had them screwed all the way in and the wheels were pushed out significantly. I didn't do exact measurements but I believe I took off close to 1-2" on both sides. I would highly recommend bolting yours up and seeing what you have before cutting any material, because evidently for some setups (i assume either v6 or v8 stock spindles) they don't have to trim the ends at all. |
